Chaplain & the Spiritual Formation Program
Spiritual formation is one major aspect of Seminary life, together with growth in theological wisdom and development of ministerial skills. Spiritual formation has both a divine and human-ministerial side. It is the redemptive act of the Holy Spirit in all aspects of individual and corporate life to reclaim the rule of God within and between individuals so that they might reflect the glory of God in increasing measure until its perfection at the return of Christ. It is also the ministerial act of mature, gifted, and trained Christians in providing sustained companionship, guidance, facilitation, and support to individuals and groups so that they might discern and experience, through the help of Scriptures, authentic interaction with God for the purpose of a fruitful life of service to both God and human beings.

The spiritual formation program at ATS seeks to:

  1. Enable students toward better spiritual self-understanding and awareness.
  2. Develop systematic and workable patterns of spiritual discipline, informed by a sound theology of spirituality and by a sensitivity to both the cultural context and individual characteristics of students.
  3. Provide models for spiritual maturity that demonstrate a Christ-directed spirituality that students can practice and that they can pass on to those to whom they minister.
  4. Encourage the actual practice of such disciplines through care groups, chapel, retreats, and guided meditative sessions.
  5. Provide counseling services for students, including entrance and exit counseling.
Counseling Center
The ATS Counseling Center functions on two levels:
  1. It serves as learning laboratory for Counseling major students where they experience supervision during actual counseling sessions. Students can watch and process actual or simulated counseling sessions. The laboratory for learning also provides teaching faculty with opportunities for mutual learning and supervision of their counseling cases. It is also a venue where faculty and students can try out innovative approaches in counseling.
  2. Offers counseling and psychotherapy on problems such as alcohol/drug addictions, relationship problems, personality problems, depression and anxiety problems, sleep problems, eating disorders, sexual problems, etc.

The Center promotes personal growth and development of its students and clients. It is managed by professionals who have wide exposure in the helping profession both inside and outside the church. The members of the team come from various disciplines and traditions of the helping professions. They are Christian leaders in their respective professional groups, churches and religious communities. They have long experience of teaching in the church, Bible school and/or seminary on counseling and other topics related to effective Christian living.

International Student Services Office
The International Student Services Office (ISSO) seeks to assist international students in the entire process of enrollment and matriculation at ATS. Prospective international students should contact the ISSO for important information on enrollment, immigration procedures, and documentation before arrival in the Philippines. ATS recognizes the special needs of international students and is committed to helping each student receive the maximum benefit of a graduate-level education. We do this by helping to find housing and schooling for children, orientation to life in the Philippines, especially Metro Manila, and awarding scholarships to eligible and qualified students.

We also assist accepted students with immigration and related legal matters. It should be noted here that, at the present time, we process only the 9-g visa (i.e. the missionary visa) which is suitable for students at ATS. Unfortunately, we cannot be responsible for administering any other type of visa.

Normally, all application forms, transcripts, references, testimonies, medical certificates, etc. should be submitted to ATS before leaving your home country (see separate notes on entrance requirements and TOEFL requirements).

We strongly advise that you photocopy and keep safely at least 3 copies of all important documents (passport, travel documents, all application forms, transcript, etc.). Please do not send anything which has not been photocopied yet.
