Annual Awards may be given each year to M.A. and
M.Div. graduates who meet the criteria for the award.
Academic Excellence Award
An award may be given each year to any graduating student in the M.Div. program with the highest grade point average of 1.10 or above. The awardee will receive a plaque and a gift check.
Christian Education Award
An award may be given each year to the graduating student who demonstrates superior work in the area of Christian Education. This awardee will be chosen by the Christian Education Department and reported to the Awards Committee. Criteria shall include all areas of Christian Education ministry. The awardee will receive a plaque and a gift check.
Church History/Missions Award
An award may be given each year to any student who demonstrates superior work in the area of church history/missions. The student will present a paper on a subject in church history/missions having special relevance to the church in Asia. The papers will be submitted to the Church History and Intercultural and Urban Studies faculty for evaluation and the final decision will be reported to the Awards Committee. The awardee will receive a plaque and a gift check.
Community Service Award
An award my be given each year to the graduating student who has concretely demonstrated by means of its testimonial nature, impact on other people’s lives, and a conscious decision to engage in community service, a commitment to people through community development or any kind of ministry which addresses a social, political, or community need. Recommendations will be made by the faculty to the Awards Committee which will return its nominations to the whole faculty for the final decision. The awardee will receive a plaque and a gift check.
Counseling Award
An award may be given each year to the graduating student who consistently demonstrates superior competencies in all core areas of Christian counseling: child and adolescent, couples and marital, individual and family. The student also demonstrates an outstanding ability in articulating the relationship between theology and psychology in the field of Christian counseling. This awardee shall be recommended by the Counseling Department and reported to the Awards Committee. The awardee will receive a plaque and a gift check.
Cross-Cultural Missions Award
An award may be given each year to the graduating student who demonstrates superior work in the area of missions studies, and who is either currently engaged in cross-cultural missions work or who is returning to such work after graduation. This awardee shall be recommended by the Intercultural and Urban Studies Department and will be reported to the Awards Committee. Criteria shall include potential for future cross-cultural missions work, or potential for increased effectiveness in a current work, as a result of his/her studies here at ATS. The awardee will receive a plaque and a gift check.
Evangelism/Church Planting Award
An award may be given each year to the graduating student who demonstrates superior work in the area of evangelism and/or church planting. This awardee shall be recommended by the Pastoral Studies Department and will be reported to the Awards Committee. Criteria shall include length of ministry in evangelism and/or church planting, quality of such ministry, potential for increased effectiveness in the work as a result of his/her studies here at ATS. The awardee will receive a plaque and a gift check.
Exegetical/Biblical Studies Award
An award may be given each year to any student who demonstrates superior work in the area of exegetical studies. The student will present an exegetical study of an Old Testament passage (Hebrew or Aramaic) or a New Testament passage (Greek) in which proficiency of exegetical skills is demonstrated, including syntactical, theological, structural, and application data. The student may also choose to write his/her paper in the area of Biblical Theology. The papers will be submitted to the Biblical Studies Department to be evaluated and a decision will be reported to the Awards Committee. The awardee will receive a plaque and a gift check.
Expository Preaching Award
An award may be given each year to the graduating student who demonstrates superior proficiency in the art of expository preaching. He/she shall be an able communicator who presents the message of Scripture in a relevant manner. Candidates for this award shall be selected by the Preaching Clinic faculty member to preach in chapel. Voting on the outstanding preacher shall be done by the members of the faculty. Eligibility to evaluate the senior preachers will be given only to those faculty members who are able to attend all senior messages. The Preaching Clinic faculty member shall tabulate the results, report the result to the Awards Committee, and the award will be announced at graduation. The awardee will receive a plaque and a gift check.
Faculty Award
An award may be given each year to the graduating student who best portrays the ideals of Asian Theological Seminary in terms of character, ministry, scholarship, and spiritual life. Recommendations will come from the faculty at large. The Awards Committee will review their Christian service and testimony, conduct personal interviews, and recommend nominations to the faculty. The final vote on this award shall be made by the faculty as a whole. The awardee will receive a plaque and a gift check.
Pastoral Award—David Jenning Memorial Award
An award may be given each year to the graduating student who demonstrates superior work in the area of pastoral studies, and who is involved in and plans to make a career in the pastoral ministry. This awardee shall be chosen by the Pastoral Studies Department and reported to the Awards Committee. Criteria shall include all areas of pastoral work. The amount of the award, given in the memory of David Jennings through the Philippine Evangelical Theological Research Association (PETRA), varies from year to year.
Theological Education Award
An award may be given each year to the graduating student who demonstrates superior work in the area of theological education studies, and who is either currently or intends to be, a theological educator. Recommendees will be made by the faculty to the Awards Committee which will return its nominations to the whole faculty for a final decision. The awardee will receive a plaque and a gift check.
Theological Studies Award
An award may be given each year to the graduating student who demonstrates superior work in the area of theological studies. The student will present a theological study in the areas of either systematic or historical theology, in which maturity of judgment, quality of research, and clarity of presentation are displayed. Special consideration shall also be given to the study displaying a faithful contextualization. The paper will be submitted to the Theology Department to be evaluated, and the final decision will be reported to the Awards Committee. The awardee will receive a plaque and a gift check.
Rules for awards that require writing of a paper
- The student will use a pen name on the paper being submitted for an award.
- Two (2) copies of the paper will be submitted.
- The pen name will be submitted along with his/ her real name in an envelope to the Associate Dean of Students when the paper is ready to be submitted.

Re: (name of) Award
- The paper must be clean, double-spaced, and typewritten in Turabian style.
- The paper for the Theological Studies and Church History/Missions Awards should not exceed fifteen (15) pages including endnotes, appendices, and bibliography. The paper for the Exegetical/Biblical Studies Award should not exceed twenty-five (25) pages including endnotes, appendices, and bibliography.
- Previously submitted papers for courses may be submitted for awards. It is expected that the student will take advantage of the professor's remarks to improve his/her paper, but the remarks and grade should not appear on the paper submitted for an award.

- format (follow Turabian style)
- structure (clarity, cogency, coherence)
- The winning paper becomes a property of ATS.
- The deadline will be one month before graduation.
