Church Planting
This course is a biblical and sociological examination of the “city” as a phenomenon of human existence coupled with a serious attempt to equip God's ministers for the task of multiplying healthy churches within the complexities and challenges of city life. Focus is on Metro Manila.
Crucial Issues in Ministry
This course involves a circumspective and creative sharing and discussion of some of the most vital and difficult issues affecting the pastors' life and ministry in the Philippines/Asia today.
Disciplemaking
This course examines the biblical demands of following Jesus Christ and the command to make disciples of all nations. Attention will be given to the local church setting and the role of church pastors and leaders in ensuring that the church is built on a solid discipleship program. In addition, students will learn to distinguish and apply appropriate forms, contents and methods of disciple-making in various multi-cultural and cross-cultural contexts of ministry. Students will develop their own discipleship material that is biblically faithful and contextually relevant to their own ministry settings.
Evangelism
This course is a study of the biblical foundations and approaches to doing evangelism patterned mostly after the ministries of Jesus Christ, the apostles, and the early church. The course seeks to help students to develop a useful evangelism training program and strategy suitable to their ministry context.
Homiletics
This course is an investigation of the biblical view of preaching and the preacher with emphasis on the preparation of expository sermons. The course provides opportunities for working on biblical texts to produce sermon outlines and sermons for class discussion. Prerequisite: Hermeneutics and Theological Method.
Leadership and Administration
This course studies the biblical understanding of leadership and management. It looks into the management cycle of planning, leading, organizing and controlling and how this applies to Christian ministry. Special focus will be given on being a servant-leader, building a team ministry, change management, and others.
Pastoral Internship
This course seeks to apply and integrate ministry principles and theories by providing opportunities for learning through experience under the guidance of qualified personnel in the field of biblical and pastoral ministries. Special emphasis is given to developing pastoral ministry skills in a local church setting or educational ministry skills in a Bible college/seminary setting. Areas to be covered include the following: pastoral care and nurture; preaching; teaching; worship; social concern and community development; evangelism and church growth; management and leadership; and formal and nonformal theological education.
Pastoral Theology
This course focuses on the person and ministry of the pastor, as well as the pastor's professional development and growth. Students will be provided with valuable tools to effectively carry out the various functions of the pastoral office. Special attention will be given to becoming effective pastors in Asian urban contexts.
Preaching Clinic
This course focuses on the practice of preaching the expository sermons. The emphasis is on the content and communication of the sermon, with attention also given to projection, delivery, and preaching style. Prerequisite: Homiletics .
Small Group Ministry
This course looks at the importance of small group ministry in the life of the local church. An examination of the different models of small group ministry will be undertaken through field research and classroom discussions, leading to a personal model applicable to present ministry context. The course also examines the dynamics of effective leading and the training of new leaders for small groups.
Spiritual Formation
This course focuses on developing a Christian hermeneutic to human life on earth, giving special attention to the formation, growth, and development of one's new being in Christ through the presence and ministry of the Holy Spirit. It attempts to help students to flourish toward full maturity in all dimensions of life in becoming more Christ-like. This course must be taken during the student's first year of study.
Theology of Ministry
This course carefully considers the biblical-theological foundations, critiques the historical expressions (models), and surveys the contemporary forms of ministry. It provides a broad framework for a distinctive Christian ministry and shows the critical connection between the theology and practice of Christian ministry for all of God's people.
Worship, Liturgy, and Renewal
This course is an investigation and evaluation of the contemporary ministry of worship in Christian churches from the biblical, historical, pastoral, and Fil-Asian cultural perspectives. It seeks to equip and stimulate the Christian minister to creatively develop sound, authentic, and dynamic worship resulting in spiritual renewal to God's people in Asia today. It includes designing liturgy for all celebrative, commemorative life events such as weddings, birthdays, dedication, baptism, Lord's Supper, anniversaries, funerals, and others.
