COUNSELING

The Department of Counseling embraces ATS's emphasis on the development of deep Christian insight, spiritual gifting, and sensitivity to culture and social context. It fosters the formation of a theological understanding of the human condition and provides an educational environment for the integration of the human sciences and the Christian faith towards the alleviation of human suffering and the building of healthier individuals, families, churches and communities. ATS counseling programs aim to train Christian workers to function as competent practitioners in a variety of pastoral and caring
ministries.

The ATS Counseling Center is an integral part of the Counseling program, serving as a laboratory for students as they develop and refine their counseling skills.

The Counseling Department boasts of an extensive collection of recently published books in the field of counseling.

• GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN COUNSELING (G.Dip.C.)

This program is designed for ministers (lay and ordained) who would like to improve their counseling competencies under the mentorship of counselors who are widely recognized and respected in the field. In addition to classroom studies, Graduate Diploma in Counseling students are required to complete 180 hours of internship.

• MASTER OF ARTS IN COUNSELING (M.A.C.)

The purpose of this program is to prepare students for entry-level counseling positions. For students interested in developing applied research skills in counseling, the M.A. program includes a thesis option (Option 1). Option 2 allows students to take comprehensive examinations instead of a thesis. Using a series of four Bible Survey courses, the M.A. core curriculum seeks to ground the students in the Scriptures. Master of Arts in Counseling students are required to complete one internship and articipate in care groups for two semesters.

All courses are 3 units except Thesis, which is 6 units, and Research and Writing and Care Group, which are non-credit.

• MASTER OF DIVINITY IN COUNSELING (M.Div.C.)

The purpose of this course is to enable students to obtain a foundation in counseling and in biblical/theological studies. It is designed to equip men and women for counseling in the context of pastoral ministry and related roles. In addition to classroom studies, Master of Divinity in Counseling students are required to complete two internships and participate in care groups for three semesters.

All courses are 3 units except Research & Writing and Care Group, which are non-credit.
